I play both Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze, who both happen to be very excellent scientists. In fact, there's very little within the realm of science that one, the other, or sometimes both couldn't conceivably do - there are things that would probably be very difficult and only one of them could do it, but the list of things neither of them could do is pretty short.
What this means is that if your character has a need, either one time or ongoing, for the skills of a scientist or even a mad scientist, I'm a good person to ask. Whether you want your character to have access to something they normally would not or you think it would be interesting to involve them in the origin story of your character's equipment, they can do it all.
Do keep in mind that neither are usually willing to work for free. Though if given an interesting problem then Poison Ivy might humor someone and she has a soft spot for down-on-their-luck women. Mr. Freeze values expanding his knowledge, so if your character has access to any interesting chemicals or equipment you might work out a trade. But they both respond very well to having money thrown at them. But if your character is poor and probably couldn't get money, let me know and we can probably work around it somehow.
Or you could simply threaten them since they respectively care about plants and their wife so much, but both of them are deeply passionate about revenge so that's a dangerous game. But also possibly a fun game if you want to play it...
But to help give you some ideas of what they might be able to do, here's a list of ideas (though it's definitely not a complete list):
Acid (Both, but Ivy is better)
Biochemicals of all kinds (Ivy)
Non-Bio-chemicals of all kinds (Freeze)
Dakka, or anything that looks steampunk (Freeze)
Diseases, causing (Ivy)
Diseases, curing (Both, but Ivy is usually better)
Genes and weird biology (Ivy)
Immunities (Ivy)
Lazers (Freeze)
Mind-altering chemicals of any kind (Ivy)
Monsters (Probably Ivy)
Robots (Freeze)
Poison (Ivy, duh)
