Babs was about to head down to the station to catch her train back home when she passed by a diner. A diner she occasionally stops in on her way home, or grabs a quick snack on her way from school to work. Her dad used to bring her here for pie and ice cream. It had been a while since she came here with her dad and as she was thinking about that, she spotted the very man she was thinking of.
Moments later, Babs walked in and sat across from her father at their old booth.
"I didn't think you came here much anymore after you got higher in rank. And I am a little offended you didn't think to text or call me that you were here. I think to make it up to me I'm gonna need some fries, maybe a burger, but definately some pie and ice cream. I am both very hungry and very hurt, dad."
Babs had a way of teasing her dad. He was always so stoic and neutral, someone had to goad the man into a smile once in a while, why not his dear, sweet, amazing, fantastic, brilliant daughter.
"And if you're on your way home after this I will gladly take a ride, too, old man."
She shrugged her bag off her shoulders and scooted on the inside of the booth, between her and the wall. She put her cellphone face down on the table and to her left. She was seizing the opportunity to have a meal with her dad. They had hardly seen each other at all this week, he was busy, she was busy, mom was busy, everyone was just all of the busy. When she was little there always seemed like plenty of time, but as she grew older there was less and less. She pulled the hood down off her head, her bright red hair spilling out. She pulled it back with a ponytail band and folded her arms across her edge of the table.

Buster's diner, the establishment so frequently visited by Chief James Gordon at one point that everyone working there knew who he was. He especially came here every Tuesday at breakfast for the chipped beef. That was four years ago though, he stopped coming as often when he was promoted to Chief of Detectives. He loved the place and was very good friends with the owner (even if he was a bit of a cheeseball). He just didn't have time to come, he was so busy he barely had time for Barbara and Babs. He sat in the corner booth he always sit in all those years ago, and was on his phone. He didn't recognize any of the staff, but he still received emails from the owner every now and again.
He was about to call his daughter to see if she wanted to have dinner with him, he could have called Jon but he'd most likely just keep ignoring him. At least he had one kid that still wanted to deal with him. He looks through his contacts list, finally stopping at his daughter's name. Her contact photo was a goofy picture of her, tongue sticking out and everything. He smiled at the memory of when his daughter was younger. When she was younger, and when she didn't try to pressure him into letting her join the police academy once she was old enough. He loved her, and he was lucky to still have her in his life, it was too long ago that Commissioner Loeb tried to take her away from him.
He wasn't able to call her though, because she just so happened to come across the diner and see him in the window. He smiled as soon as he saw her and laughed at her being 'very hungry and very hurt' Once she was done speaking he held up his phone for a moment, showing that he was actually about to call her. "You know what I say, Barabra. Never make a judgment without see-" She'd finish his sentence, and with a sarcastic flair to boot. He taught her well, or at least he did his very best.
"And yes, believe it or not, I am on my way home. I thought we could maybe spend a little time together?" He felt a little sentimental, he was still at the point in his life that he knew when his job was starting to take over. Things between him and his wife were okay, but not the best. No matter how tough things got though, they always got through it. He just wanted to make sure he didn't drift away from Babs, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he did.
He and his daughter were having a moment, a moment that would be interrupted by the owner of this establishment as soon as he noticed Jim and Babs Gordon in one of his booths. "Is that Jim Gordon and his lovely daughter in one of MY booths? Well, what a treat!" Steve Freely, the owner of Buster's diner approached the booth, holding a pair of menus and a notepad in order to take their order. The owner hardly ever took orders, but he'd make an exception for Jim Gordon and his daughter.
"Where have you been Captain Gordon? And why have you been hiding your beautiful from all of us?" He was about the same age as Jim, maybe a little older. He was heavier set and always wore a pair of glasses. His voice was a little high pitched and he was definitely corny but he meant well. He'd turn to Babs. "How old are you now, how's school?" Gordon tried to interject and correct the man, but he couldn't. He'd simply let Babs talk to Steve, they always liked each other. Steve has known her since she was a baby, after all.
